We are the 2nd richest ASEAN country nung panahon nya.
I'm sorry. Honestly, Marcos is not a hero. He was a former soldier but never a war hero. He just bought fake medals to proclaim his heroic deeds but never recognized by Americans nor the Allied Forces. There is no document which would corroborate that he received a distinction of honor from the US forces.
Ferdie was a convicted criminal for a felony of murder when he shot in cold blood his neighbor early morning in his homeplace. He was granted reprieve by Justice Laurel due to his passing of the Bar Exam while serving his sentence in the prison.
There are good as well as bad things which Ferdie did when he served as President of the Philippines. Many of them can be searched online or thru reliable sources. Unfortunately, most of the new generation of Filipinos prefer to believe in hearsays and fairy tales rather than the truth. A simple test would be? Where did Ferdie get his riches or his wealth? He was not rich when he lived in Ilocos before he became President. Gossips just circulated that he got his wealth from the loots and plunder during the war which by far, unverified and baseless.
Some said, that the currency during Ferdie's time was $1-P2 which is far from the truth. I was born during his regime and never experienced that the Peso was just half of the Dollar. This is a total lie! This was not his time. Kindly read our history.
Yes, there were many projects during Ferdie's time, big projects indeed. Unfortunately, most of these projects were managed and co-owned by his cronies. And if you want promotion in the military, you must be at least of Ilocano origin.
The debt of the Philippines during Ferdie's time reached $27 Billion with an inflation rate between 20-50%. Prices of commodities rose each year even to the point that the sugar industry fell down in Negros. If I remember it right, Fredie Aguilar composed a song entitled, "Sagipin natin mga bata sa Negros", to save children from hunger and malnourishment.
Ferdie started good at first. He had awesome projects. Big projects in mind. One of those was the "National Electrification" law, "National Irrigation" system and a lot more. Unfortunately, as time went by, he was eaten by greed, more ambition, pride and insecurity. He could no longer vacate his position. This was the time when the public aired their discontent and disappointment. The public discontent was fired by the intrusion of China thru funding the guerilla movement called the 'NPA'. They were used by China to counter the influence of the West during the Cold War era. China was successful in their campaign, they made Vietnam, Cambodia and North Korea repel the American forces and embrace Communism. However, they could not take hold of the Philippines due to a very strong American presence and influence. So, they just funded a revolutionary group to tear down Marcos and his government. They used tactics to expose Ferdie's weaknesses-- issues of corruption, human rights violations and ostentatious display of wealth and pride.
Poor Ferdie, he wasn't able to do what is right in his time. He was surrounded by evil men--- friends, cabinets, advisers and even religious leaders. He was not instructed properly nor advised for the absolution of his sins. He was left alone going to the crooked and darkest path until he finally met his end. An end to his dictatorship, militaristic rule and abuse of power. I remember him not as a hero, nor a villain but a poor guy who lost his vision and succumb to power and greed.
best thing to do is teach and learn our real history...madaming hindi tinuturo sa paaralan at marami rin mali sa history natin..
