How to make your own home solar. With Pictures + solar book

Re: You want to make your own home solar? Pasok!

1- A deep cycle battery, if used every day but not discharge more than 50% of its capacity will last 7 years.
2- Normally, after one year, everything should still be ok. You just have to check the water in the battery once a month!
3- Tama ka! You can use a 50 watt solar panel to charge a 100 Ah battery (or 100 watts panel for 200 Ah bat)
4- Usually car battery are around 70 Ah but are not deep cycle... you can use it for solar purpose but for lights lang... and be aware that it might not last long! Maybe one year if you don't overcharge it!

hehe... nope...I'm far to be electrical engineer... I just learn by myself! And I wrote my thread by myself din!

follow up question lang.

1. Matagal din pala 7yrs bago magpalit , Ano ba magandang Brand ng battery? ano mas prefer niyo yung maintenance free or tinutubigan pa? Kasi kalimitang nakikita ko yung tinutubigan eh, ano ba mas maganda or wala namang masyadong issue or deperensya kahit ano sa dalawa?

2. So battery nalang talaga ang monitor natin after naka set up na ang lahat?

Or parang inverter nalang ang gamit niya.

if you have a car battery charger, see if the used car battery can still be charged... kung natsa-charge pa, pwede pa rin yan gamitin...

Thanks for sharing sir.

Re: You want to make your own home solar? Pasok!

Thank you TRISTANWS :salute:

Cge mga sir thank you update update nalang muna.

Re: You want to make your own home solar? Pasok!

ohhh this is nice! thanks..

Re: You want to make your own home solar? Pasok!

sir taga manila po kayo? kasi may nakikita akong mga "solar panels" na binebenta sa raon. what can you say about those panels?

Re: You want to make your own home solar? Pasok!

Nice Thread Ts :) Nosebled! But I want to try it... Thanks! :)

Re: You want to make your own home solar? Pasok!

..... more power ....

1. Trojan battery probably the best but expensive... motolite solar battery (deep cycle) are good and a little less expensive (still, the solar batteries are really expensive :ranting:) But better have good deep cycle batteries coz they are the heart of the system...

2. Battery check is the most important but of course you can check time to time the wiring and different parts to see if not rusted or cut or whatever ;)

3. to charge a 100 Ah battery with a 60 watt solar panel.... so, of course it depends if the day is really sunny or cloudy and if your battery is totally discharge or not! So let assume that your battery is 50% discharge (assuming that when you bought your battery it was fully charge, then you use it ; and as I always stress, DON'T DISCHARGE YOUR BATTERY LESS THAN 50%... doing so you will keep them many years in good shape... of course time to time you can discharge up to 80% with no problem)
So back to charging time: if sunny and 50% charged already, about 2 hours to 3 hours.

4. a car battery, if 11.9 volt will not start a car! Just recharge it with a car battery or solar! (unless it's your starter :) ) You need a digital tester to be sure of the voltage... that's something you must have for your solar system... a manual tester will not do, it's not enough accurate: for example, if you used a manual tester to test your car battery maybe you saw fully charge but in reality it was maybe 11.9 instead of 12 volt....

5. The best talaga is 12 volt LED bulb... you will not consume almost anything even with several bulbs... One led bulb consume three times less than a regular saving energy bulb. For example if you buy a 3 watts led bulb, it's like a 9 watts regular bulb. Plus if you find them in 12 volt you don't need inverter! The problem is to find them... here, in Palawan, wala :upset: I saw on sulit.com that some people sell them... In case you can't find LED bulb in 12 volts, you will find easily LED bulbs in 220 volts... in this case, you will need a small inverter to run them. If you want solar, just to run some bulbs so you can buy a cheap inverter 200 watts sa cdr king. I recently bought a LED tube in cdr king 7 watts and it give the same light than my old fluorescent tube 20 watts

6. I don't know anything about ups... never used it :D... See Tristan's answer, he is right, I think :)

Thanks to share with us  me too, I'm using a 5 volt dc fan (for car), it does not consume anything on my battery bank.. the only problem, it's noisy  I use also a car adapter to charge my cellphones directly to the battery...

Yes... babae ako... In our household I am the "handywoman" more than my husband

You are all welcome... I'm very happy if some of you will "turn" green... good for you and for our planet

Me too, I thought also of making a windmill (also a small hydro, as we had a small river malapit sa amin noon) but you are right spare parts are expensive and difficult to get... plus, wind is not blowing always... at least here... For me sun is more reliable because even in rainy season, I can still charge my battery bank... only very few days I couldn't charge them and was obliged to rely on Paleco!

I really hope that I can help some people to set up a small solar system... Before doing mine I read and read for months... I read so many different things that I was confused and thought that it was impossible and only for rich people... because, when you ask a solar salesman, he will give you an estimation A LOT over your need... and all the readings are very theoretical or even I went to foreign forums, these people have very big system as they consume a lot of electricity, so it couldn't be apply for us.... Then, matigas ang ulo ko, I decided that I could try coz we don't consume so much...I said "forget about all the computations and let see what we can do! So my husband and I decided to buy little by little what we need... and now we are so happy with it and laugh when we watch tv during a brownout... our neighbors envy us and I try to convince them to have just a small one

Re: You want to make your own home solar? Pasok!

I hope I can help you but I need more details... I made some research about the nebulizer but if you can provide, the brand and if you have also the specification (watts, amp, voltage) it's better... Some nebulizers work on 12 volts... And I'm not sure you need a pure sine wave inverter... On what I read a 300 watts inverter should do... But I don't know if you can find that now in leyte... What you need is to connect your 2 solar panels in parallel to your batteries also connected in parallel then you connect the inverter to the batteries and plug the compressor of the nebulizer to the inverter... But as said Tristan, your battery will not last long... how many Ah are the batteries? How many watts the solar panels? Please try to find some more details... If you cannot find some source of energy, try to buy some VENTOLIN sa drugstore or pharmacy....Good Luck...

I'm going to research again if I find something for you I will update this post...

Edit: after researching, I cannot say if you need pure sine wave or modified (regular) inverter... most of the people using an inverter for their nebulizer say that a 300 watt regular inverter works well (700 pesos sa cdr king) some others say that they need a pure sine wave which is a lot more expensive... I think that if your nebulizer is not very recent or is simple (not a lot of electronics parts) it will run with a regular inverter....

Since I bought these items, prices went down... and of course it depends were you buy, so roughly

1 solar panel sa cdr king 50 watts was 2000 pesos (but I saw that they have now 1 solar panel 120 watts for 4500 pesos - wala ng 50 watts)
1 inverter pure sine wave 1000 watts, around 5000
1 battery motolite solar 120 Ah around 6500 pesos
