anyway used r4i(loads up .3ds rom) way couple yrs back @O3DS nabili ko sa quiapo 3.5 pa un dati mahal - ngaun pinamimigay ko nalang ung r4i gold ko hahaha
tapos ngaun CFW na so no need for flashcart just download CIA(regionFree) files sa sd. boot up and go

easier solution would be is get your unit fw to 4.2 - 4.5 via game cartridge/manual update at least, then install rxtools wif mset(mura lang ung r4 na pang ds to load your mset OR u can try zee browser ver) and youll be able to play those rf cia -
gusto mo lang mag play ng english games ya ? if so u can ignore the jap settings when u boot, just go settings > prof > boot rx then play your installed cias.
with rx u can load 9.8 emunand to play your cias, 4.2-4.5 is your safe zone to not lose lots of options to free your unit.
kasi pag 4.5+ kana dami nang hassle when it comes to setting up your preferred cfw -

PS: theres always a chance that you could BRICK/DAMAGE your system/sysnand. FYI
