[TUTORIAL] DIY eGPU - Attach a DESKTOP GPU to your Laptop!

Re: Build your own Gaming Laptop! - DIY eGPU

mi100g.jpg

mukhang pwede gpu dyan... nakakita na ako ng ganyang form factor. mukhang flimsy at cheap lang materials nyan kumpara sa napanood ko sa youtube. but you can make a decent SFF rig or a capable HTPC from that.

kung gagawing housing lang yan ng GPU para sa external GPU enclosure, i think kelangan mo pa gawan ng paraan yung power button na mag-trigger ng ON state ng PSU para umandar yun at saka naman aandar yung GPU mo, since walang walang motherboard na pagkakabitan yung PSU. i think i've already seen some tutorials on how to do that.

Share ko lang guys yung naging experience ko with my egpu setup. I am using the old lenovo t400 like the one ts used before. I have exp gdc bought from a person who retired from egpu (he used gtx 970 and dell e6420). At first akala ko hindi magwwork ang device sa laptop ko dahil hindi sya madetect ng windows 7 after hot plugging. Then after forcing the device to sleep and wake and setting the device switch delay to 15s its finally detected. Then I Installed the driver 306.xx as it was the last driver to support internal lcd display. The device worked pretty well and worked like a plug n play thumb drive though pulling the expresscard while playing is not really advised hehe

My setup
lenovo t400 2.2 intel p8400 c2d
4gb Ram
Igpu: intel mhd4500
EGpu: Exp Gdc v8 w/ Nvidia GTS 450 via expresscard connection

Most of the games are playable @30fps using internal lcd but with this kind of system i was forced to play at 900 × 600 resolution.

Some of the games i tried are:
Command and Conquer 3 - Playable at ultra settings 900x600
Nba 2k15 playable at low 900 x 600
Naruto Ninja Storm 4 - Surprisingly playable at 1280 x 720 high no AA
Battlefield 3 - playable at 900x600 ultra but no AA
World in Conflict - playable at high 900x 600
Devil may cry 4 - high at 900x600 but suffering from freezes when playing at full screen
Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 - playable at high settings at 1280x720p

I also tried pcsx2 kamen rider kabuto but it was really slow.

I will try external monitor gaming with these games. But i am confident that they are pretty much faster than internal lcd performance.

I am planning to upgrade these stuffs in the future but at least i can finally play these games in my boarding house :)

Thanks sir @badbadbad for tips and ideas.

:)

Congratulations sir! Thanks for informing us of your working setup. Achievement unlocked!

This laptop is not the advised unit for an eGPU, but at least you got it to work!

The most powerful cards na hindi ata bottlenecked sa T400 is GTX460/GTX560Ti.

PPSSPP na yan! haha

Here it is sir! Performance is kinda frustrating at first as i noticed that the fps is parang naka locked up even in low or high at max resolution, parang pareho lang ung amount ng fps nya feeling ko un ung result ng bandwidth limitation ng old expresscard slot.

Im not sure if getting a 6xx cards will still improve the performance of this laptop or if this is the only thing i can get out of this system hehe.

Pero dun ako nagulat sa Naruto Ninja Storm 4 as in playable sya. Naalala ko kasi ung pc ko ambagal ng naruto series games sa pc ko with HD7770 nung parang naka x1 mode ung pcie slot ng pc ko similar bandwidth to this egpu. Maybe the game was optimized with nvidia cards.

I've been trying to use the PCIE 2.0 with DELL E5430 but hirap madetect ni laptop ung graphics card. Is it true guys na yung EXP GDC has some issues with PCIE 2.0 setup?

i have been planning to build this one using my old lenovo t420 laptop and luckily kasama siya sa listahan ng mga compatible laptops na pedeng gamitan ng egpu adapter. actually naggawa nga rin ako ng thread na ganito :clap:at may isang sumagot na knowldeable as in natry nyang gawin kaya lang hindi daw gumana and yun nga, after checking, wala pala sa list ng mga compatible laptop yung unit niya....will try to look it up again at kunin ko yung link for everybody'reference para alam ninyo yung compatible units o hindi....sana yung ngpost na gumana yung ginawa niya using egpu ay mgpost ng video how did he do that at kung paano yung kinalabasan. also, how much nya nabili yung adapter nya, where did he buy it and the payment mode na ginawa nya considering wala talagang mabili nito sa Pilipinas. I already posted sa lazada but up to now hindi pa rin sila sumasagot or nagpopost kung magkano yun sa Pilipinas....

more power sa TS and hope mgsucceed ito...kung sino man nakatry na at naging successful o hindi yung ginawa ninyo, pls post your experience and share it here for everybody's reference.....hopefully, magboom ito in the near future so that we can play high games without needing to buy super expensive laptop just to do so....

ADVANCE MERRY MERRY XMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!:yipee::beat:

I am sure paps mag wwork sya sa T420 and much better pa yung magging performance nya. Like what I had with Dell E5430 na nagkaroon ako ng Error 12 and Error 43. Not to mention pa na may issue yung adapter ko sa PCIE 2.0 setup na tntry ko pa gawan ng paraan sa ngayon.

Anong adapter yung balak mo bilhin paps

Merry XMAS!
