[TUTORIALS] Nokia N900

Try to remove the Nokia Drivers from Device Manager and install again. Gumagamit ba kayo ng PC Suite? I advise na tanggalin din muna and let the N900's drivers install first.

Thanks sir. ginawa ko sir, inuninstall ko lahat ng Nokia drivers and software related to Nokia then reinstall N900 drivers.
still got the problem

You have two more things to try:

1. Fresh reinstall of Windows 7 64-bit. After reinstall, plug the N900 on Mass Storage and see kung ganun pa rin. A fresh reinstall eliminates other variables na maaaring nag-cause niyan.

2. If it fails, re-flash the N900 and try again (make sure fresh install pa rin si Windows 7). Para ma-ensure na walang variables both on the OS and on the N900.

Pag nag-work, then that means there must be something in your previous setup na nag-cause niyan.

what do you mean sir na undo & redo? sa conversation box or thread?

Hi N900 Users,

I decided to use my Nokia N900 again. :)

I am also trying new stuff (mga bagay na wala pa sa tutorial) particularly yung U-Boot and how to use it in a multi-boot setup (NITDroid, Maemo, and Backupmenu). I will share updates as I go on. Stand by for updates!

Nice sir topet! Stand by lang kami para sa new setup

Also try to visit this N900 peeps!

June 2013 Revision of: N900 The Perfect Setup

Yup...actually I'm reviewing that, kasi dalawa ang version ng "The Perfect Setup" at hindi sila magkapareho ng steps. Yung isang version (yung ni-link mo):

1. CSSU Thumb
2. U-Boot
3. Backupmenu
4. No Kernel Power 52 in the instructions (kasi ang CSSU Thumb ay may Kernel Power 51 na customized para magamit sa CSSU Thumb)

The other version (which is this one):

1. CSSU Stable or Testing
2. Kernel Power 52 (latest available)
3. Does not talk about installing Backupmenu
3. No U-Boot and Backupmenu in the instructions

WHAT'S NEW WITH THE N900:

1. Kernel Power 51 (and higher) already comes with "Bleeding Edge Wireless Drivers": based sa pagbabasa ko, mula Kernel Power 51 onwards, kasama na ang "Bleeding Edge Wireless Drivers" (for packet injection para sa aircrack-ng, etc.). This is good news, kasi ibig sabihin hindi na kailangang mag-install ng maraming Power Kernel versions.

So ibig sabihin niyan, kahit Kernel Power 51 (or higher) lang ang install, okay na. Siguro the reason kung bakit yung other version (CSSU Stable/Testing Version) ng "The Perfect Setup" ay hindi na isinama ang U-Boot ay dahil nga integrated na yung Packet Injection sa Kernel Power.

The only reason na nakikita kong kailangang mag-install ng U-Boot is:

1. Gusto ninyong mag-dual/triple boot with NITDroid and/or Nemo.

Dun sa first version ng "The Perfect Setup" (yung CSSU Thumb version ng instructions), may warning notes na binanggit sa nagsulat ng article, so make sure to pay attention to that. Ito ang mga yun:

2. Latest Kernel Power (version 52) no longer supports Multiboot

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=89823

NOTES to wirr

1. Theme customizer is marked as broken package, don't use it.

2. Testing and devel or thumb isn't for end-user

3. fm-boost is obsolete due to KP and modded fmtx binary

4. omp tracker-cfg backupmenu etc etc are still in devel

5. encypted partitions are best in own wiki page and not for beginners

3. Latest Version of Theme Customizer conflicts with CSSU (some options of Theme Customizer will be grayed out). To know the reasons behind it, and what the alternative solution is, please read this thread (2 pages only): http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=72182

Make a Backup:

1. New flash muna ang N900.
2. Install the apps that you want (except CSSU Stable/Testing/Thumb and Kernel Power)
3. Install Backupmenu
4. Shutdown the N900
5. Boot with the keyboard slid out (to initiate Backupmenu)
6. Back up your N900
7. Boot the N900
8. Plug the N900 to your computer
9. Copy the backup files to your computer
10. Reflash ulit

This way, may backup na kayo. :) Then proceed with whatever experimentation/butingting na balak ninyong gawin.

1. Reflash
2. Install Backupmenu
3. Shutdown the N900
3. Boot with the keyboard slid out (to initiate Backupmenu)
4. Restore your backup
5. Exit Backupmenu and start up the N900
6. Uninstall Backupmenu

This way, hindi na kailangang i-uninstall. Medyo nagkakaroon ako ng kaunting issues pag Backupmenu (as in Backupmenu, not Backupmenu with Multiboot ha) and U-Boot kasi, parang may conflict sila.

2013 N900 Setup Notes

Hi Friends,

This post is just for my notes (something to log my progress)...this is not yet considered as a final tutorial.

Initial Setup

  1. Flash the N900
  2. Open Hildon Application Manager (Application Manager) and enable "extras-testing" and "extras-devel" repositories
  3. Update the catalogs
  4. Install Faster Application Manager (FAM)
  5. Close Hildon Application Manager (a.k.a. HAM)
  6. Open FAM
  7. Install "essential" packages
    • rootsh
    • sudser
    • Leafpad
    • Filebox (open Filebox, go to Settings, and enable Root Access and change Editor to Leafpad. You will need to restart the N900 for changes to take effect)
    • Swappolube (open Swappolube and select "Proposed", click "Store", and then "Apply". You will need to restart the N900 for changes to take effect)
Install U-Boot, and then reboot the N900

Code:
sudo apt-get install -y u-boot-tools u-boot-flasher
Install Kernel Power 52, and then reboot the N900

Code:
sudo apt-get install kernel-power-settings
Note: there will be a prompt/pop-up asking you to "flash" or "overwrite" U-Boot. Do not click on Accept.

Double-check for missing or uninstalled Kernel Power Packages

  1. Open FAM
  2. Check if the following are installed:
    • Linux Kernel for Power User v52
    • Linux Kernel for Power User Boot Image for U-Boot
    • Linux Kernel for Power User settings and oveclock
  3. Install them if they have not been installed. Most likely, the one that is not installed at this point is "Linux Kernel for Power User Boot Image for U-Boot"
Reboot the N900 and then type the following in XTerm

Code:
sudo gainroot
u-boot-update-bootmenu
Check for Correct Installation

  1. Reboot N900 with open keyboard
  2. You should see a black screen with a Penguin logo
  3. You should be able to select between the default Kernel and Kernel Power 52
Install Backupmenu with U-Boot

In XTerm, type this command:

Code:
apt-get install backupmenu
Check for Correct Installation Again

  1. Reboot N900 with open keyboard.
  2. Select a Kernel
  3. Press Enter
  4. DO NOT CLOSE THE KEYBOARD. Wait for a few seconds.
  5. You should see a notification at the top portion of the screen that tells you that Boot Menu is starting.
Extra: if you want to start with Kernel Power 52 as the "default" kernel when starting Maemo from Backupmenu, type the following in XTerm:

Code:
sudo ln -s /etc/bootmenu.d/20-Maemo5-kernel-power-2.6.28.10-power52.item /etc/default/bootmenu.item
VERIFIED WORKING. NEXT STEPS:

  1. Install CSSU (I'm still not decided if I want CSS Stable, CSSU Testing, or CSSU-Thumb).
  2. Install NITDoid
    • Still not decided if I want to install Gingerbread, CM900, or ICS, although I have read in forum.nitdroid.com that CM900 and ICS are not yet that solid.
    • There was an attempt for hardware acceleration to make ICS smooth/fast, but that's only for menus.
    • There is a "camera fix" for Gingerbread that I want to try out with U-Boot.
    • Hardware microphone for voice calls is STILL NOT WORKING.
    • To ensure that wifi, SMS, HWA are working, MAKE SURE TO INSTALL CSSU FIRST (in short, follow all the steps above first before installing NITDroid).
  3. Install Nemo on MicroSD
    • I have tried Nemo on my Nokia N9
    • I would describe it as "Still in an Alpha" state
    • Only basic functionalities are present (SMS, calling, Wifi). There are a few games but these are more "proof-of-concept"
    • Some UI elements are not yet complete

Nicely done sir!

Error message na %m= "file not found".

1. File Location: Make sure yung FIASCO Image ay nasa tamang lugar, or tama yung command ninyo, or dapat naka "cd" (change directory) kayo sa tamang location.

File not found lang talaga ang ibig sabihin niyan. So either location ng file, or incorrect filename lang ang issue niyan.

Nagawa ko na. :) Parang combination ng First Link and Second Link ang ginawa ko namang setup:

1. Flash, update and install favorite apps
2. U-Boot
3. Power Kernel 52
4. Backupmenu
5. CSSU Testing (ito ang napag-desisyunan kong i-install)

CSSU-Testing gamit ko until now, mukang okay naman.

And mukang mag-rereflash nanaman ako para sa new setup.

Btw sir, may konting glitch lang or MicroSD error siguro?
Nag insert ako ng 16GB class10 MicroSD card dito sa N900 ko, minsan hindi sya na re-read.

Di ko alam kung Mem. Card ang sira o sa slot mismo. Any suggestion po?

Puwede siguro try ninyong ipitan ng papel or probably scotch tape or something na adhesive.
