Yes, but I seem to remember that Karpov's camp wanted to continue the game nevertheless as initially stipulated in pretournament rules. It was supposed to be a test of mental and physical fortitude but Campomanes, the Filipino head of FIDE then, overruled a continued play. The rest is history, and Karpov couldn't seem to rediscover his mettle vs. Kasparov ever since. But it could also be argued that it was just Kasparov finally showing his true potential.

It could be a case of around peak Korchnoi vs. cantankerous Fischer, but either way the number of games does not justify a conclusive head-to-head pattern. I would be surprised if peak Korchnoi stood a chance against Fischer in a championship match.

Kasparov and Karpov have valid points sa pagtutol nila sa reset ng match nila.

Korchnoi reached his peak in 1978, so that Korchnoi that Fischer faced is not peak Korchnoi. No doubt Fischer will be the favorite against Korchnoi, but anything can happen. It is not far fetched to think that Korchnoi will beat Fischer in a match. No one expected Alekhine to beat Capablanca. Saka it is well known that Fischer's weakness is a double edge messy positions. Pero gaya ng sabi ko, Fischer will be the favorite against Korchnoi.

Chess Player Here. One of My Favorite Sports. By the way I;'m a Teacher.

The fifty-move rule in chess states that a player can claim a draw if no capture has been made and no pawn has been moved in the last fifty moves (for this purpose a "move" consists of a player completing their turn followed by the opponent completing their turn). The purpose of this rule is to prevent a player with no chance of winning from obstinately continuing to play indefinitely, (Hooper & Whyld 1992:134), or seeking to win by tiring the opponent.

It will be better if you will follow the official FIDE/Philippine's NCFP.

1. Play against each other(syempre naman)
2. Set up your own tournaments for members
3. Compete at chess tournaments outside your place or club
4. Study chess together by reading books and analyzing games.
6. Help each other improve your game.

Nine-Year-Old Liran Zhou Breaks Record for Youngest Master at the Continental Open
I asked Liran his favorite players, and he named Tal, Fischer, and Kasparov as his favorites. His long-term goal is to join them as a World Champion. Given his astronomical early successes, you have to think he has a chance!

Liran attributes his success to reading many chess books, especially those with chess puzzles. He has a library of books from How to Beat Your Dad at Chess to the Grandmaster Preparation series, but his favorite book is How to Reassess Your Chess by IM Jeremy Silman.

Liran will be competing in the World Cadet Championship in Brazil from August 21 to 31. US Chess will be following the tournament. I’m sure we will all be rooting for Liran to bring home a medal!

When you setup your own tournament, dapat magcontribute kayu at least P50 para sa prizes para ganahan naman maglaro ang mga players. Ganyan ginagawa namin noon sa school haha.

Nung active ako sa chess and organizing tournaments, I always find San Mig, Coca Cola, Milo and others great sponsors. They would even provide us with chessboards and chess clocks.

Madalas talaga mag-sponsor ng chess events ang Milo, so organizers should take note of that, hehe.

yup maraming paraan para mahasa ang mga players. pero i still prefer the old way of active learning from books by setting up the book positions on your chess board.hehe

while high iq does not really correlate on being a good player, nakakahasa talaga ng isip ang chess. hehe.

Work and family life made sure of that, haha. Pati sa guitar, hehe, another of my pastime. All they seem to do is cellphone, cellphone, cellphone, haha. They are missing so much I would think, but I'm all out supporting them whatever they choose to do with their lives.

Dati libangan ko set up two chess engines and watch them take on each other. Minsan sasalang ako against any one, and that is when I discovered that chess engines are way over humans in game play talaga. No wonder AI has taken over chess, Go, and now Dota daw, sabi sa news. What else kaya sa sunod...? Hehe.

Engines today are stronger than human. Pero iyung mga winning positions that are not messy, if you set up it with an engine ,ay kaya ng ipanalo ng strong human player. Hehe. Actually magandang gamitin ang engine at practicing winning a positions that is winning(lalo na sa endgame positions).

Pero if the player is beginner, in my opinion, wala masyado matutulong ang engine sa kanya for improvement. Kasi if the engine tells a certain position has the advantage, hindi naman maiintindihan ng beginner kung bakit may advantage. Tapos mga variations din ito, a beginner is also weak at tactics at calculation.

Sabi niya he thinks daw mas tama iyung naisip niyang idea. Giri won that game. Engine can spot all the tactical mistakes even if the position is complex in a short period of time.

I tried teaching the kids chess, but to no avail. They didn't show the slightest interest in how the pieces are supposed to move, the objective, anything. So that was that for chess. Mahirap pilitin pa, hehe.

So true about chess engines and GMs not following their play to the letter. Much of it dahil di rin naman ganun kapredictable ang play against human opponents. Kahit yung high-level GMs are afraid to venture into chess engine thinking, di naman kase apektado ng psychological factors sila gaya ng tao. Usually pag intimidating ang tira ng kalaban, may nerve na sumasali in play, something that chess engines do not share. Kahit si Kaspa yan din ang napansin nya during his battles with Deep Thought/Deep Blue hehe.

Pang advanced level lang din talaga dapat ang chess engines, not for beginners. Chess engines do not explain positions and tactical play well, something that beginner chess books are good at.

At what age mo sila tinuruan?

If you set up equally strong engines, kaya nila talunin ang isat isa. And yet nanalo sila sa kapwa engine nila. This just shows the strategic depth of chess.

They were more interested playing with the pieces off the board, haha.

Nowadays medyo boring na, 3 chess engines na lang ang usually makikita mo nangingibabaw: Komodo, Houdini, and Stockfish, the latter especially because of the hyperactive involvement of its developers. Di na kaya ng human GMs anyone of these three.

Yeah, human can't beat these engine in a full game. But these engines still make mistakes at endgames and there are situations in which human can still find better positional ideas.
