Michael Stephen "Mike" Portnoy (born April 20, 1967) is an American drummer primarily known for his work with the progressive metal band Dream Theater. Known for his drum prowess, Portnoy has won 23 awards from the Modern Drummer magazine. He has co-produced the last five Dream Theater albums with John Petrucci, starting from Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. From A Change of Seasons onwards, Portnoy has been writing a substantial amount of Dream Theater's lyrics, filling the void left by Kevin Moore, who left the band after the release of Awake. He is the second youngest person (after Neil Peart) to be inducted into the Modern Drummer's Hall of Fame (at 37 years of age).

As a progressive rock drummer, kayang kaya nya pong habulin ang lahat ng time signatures sa isang kanta... The best for me...

I'll also go with Mike Portnoy of dreamtheater... exceptionally great,, both sila ni neil peart, sobrang ganda ng mga palo.. ung kahit drums lang e music na,, hindi lang beat...

for me sa best metal band drummers ang best ay si joey jordison, astig talaga sa energy at mapapaheadbang ka sa kanyang aura, yung talent ng pagiging maimpluwensya, ang sarap tingnan ng taong to even though may error of technicalities sya na hindi halata at yan ang kaibahan nya sa lahat ng drummers napabilib ako sa taong to reading his bio, at kung pano sya naging one of the metal gods, next si Mike portnoy ng dream tneater kaso wala na sya sa DT how sad like ko pa naman line up nila, eto perfect masyado tong taong to ang galing wala akong masabi, kaso hindi ko type ang masyadong perfect, si Dave lombardo ng slayer, napakagaling dinnito, naging no. 1 din eto ,ang sarap pakinggan, npakaayos ng mga palo at may laman ang bawat palo basta at ang huli kaso patay na to si rev ng avenged sevenfold hai naku lakas ng impluwensya nito, ang astig sa drums may timing at ang art nanjan talaga.sayang at wala na sya gusto ko pa naman ang avenge sevenfold noong buhay pa sya kaso namatay nawala narin ang charm nila sa akin. reading their bio is really amazing na dapt malaman ng mga fans o even mga aspirants dyan.
