Chat/Discussion of books we've read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

@heartlessangel The Alchemyst by Michael Scott is okay. not as great as HP or Percy Jackson. It starts picking the pace up in the second book.

Oh, yeah.. I've heard about that novel before..
Thanks. I'll check it out..

Have a good read!

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

@yche09 - whoopsie, I thought Trust in Advertising's also one of JJ's novels...imma read it anyway...Im on the A Lot Like Love already, bitin, I wish she has more books for me to read, her books are really well-written...I love them all, :p...but since ALLL is the last one released right now, any other recos w/c has the same tone as her books? hehe..and to others as well? I know you guys have read loads of contemp-romances, any recommendations?

@decadence - hey good luck on your finals! :D, anyway same here, Queen's Thief Series is absolutely up in my list of faves too...and that MWT is a genuis! you might wanna try The River of Time series...nothing similar about them, but its a good read din...full of adventures...:p

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

zelle for chick lit, another wonderful author is Jennifer Crusie - Welcome to Temptation, Bet Me, Manhunting - are just some of her best books, and she has already written a lot!

Linda Howard's Duncan's Bride is also highly recommended :D

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

zelle: I've been meaning to read that series but I just kept putting it off. Haha. I'll read it soon when finals end :) Have you read Tamora Pierce? Her Song of the Lioness series is kind of good.

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

SCI-FI Novels?

- The Hunger Games Series *Suzanne Collins
- The Maze Runner Series *James Dashner
- The Lorien Legacies Series *Pittacus Lore
- The Kane Chronicles Series *Rick Riordan
- Of course! The Percy Jackson Series ( PJ and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus)
- The Last Survivors Series *Susan Beth Pfeffer

Any recommendations? ;)

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

I havr read and heard good reviews about the hunger games and i have postponed reading it until last weekend and now im done with book three. What can i say, all the reviews are right, i cant put the books down. I can totally feel the fear, the eagerness to survive, the anger and the sorrow of the characters. Thank you for the recos i enjoyed the series. ;)

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

@zelle - if you have the time, you can read The Domestic Gods Series by Robin Kaye. Not the same tone as JJ's books pero i loved them esp. the first book. :)

--------------------------------

I have read lots of books again these past few days

here's my reco's

> ANGEL SERIES by L.A. Weatherly - nabasa ko na kasi yung 2nd book so yes.. i highly recommend this for ya paranormal readers. Maganda kasi hindi puro tweetums. they kick ass din and maganda yung plot. To those who loved Hush Hush, Personal Demons, Unearthly and other angel - half angel books.. i think you'll like this. ;)

> CONVERSION SERIES by S.C Stephens - mejo sappy.. hehe. I admit, this is like Twilight in a matured way. Yun nga lang, mas may kwento and mas may depth although i frown at some scenes. I'm not yet finished with the 3rd book pero so far, i like it.

> FIFTY SHADES OF GREY SERIES by E L James - For adults only. I know mejo weird eto pero talagang nacaptivate ako. Such exhausting books to read that i can't seem to put down. Again, i'm not a fan of violence pero i wanted to know what'll happen next so i finished it and surprisingly, i like how both books (2 books) turned out. Mejo mataas din ratings. I know meron pa tong 3rd book. Again, adults only.

>Moreno Brothers Series (Forever Mine & Always Been Mine) by Elizabeth Reyes - This is a ya pero has mature content. To those who loved Beautiful Disaster and Pefect Chemistry.. i think you'll love these two. Forever mine is a sweet read but you'll grit your teeth sometimes kasi nakakainis yung girl. Povs of both the guy and the girl to so parang perfect chem and feel. Always been mine is also like that pero for me mas maganda kasi its a contemp romantic suspense. Mas magaling yung plot and i love Alex :cloud9:

>IF I STAY and WHERE SHE WENT by Gayle Forman - ugh.. super emotional, touching read. I admit, napaiyak ako ng If i Stay. Yep, mejo sad pero worth it basahin.. its short naman din kasi. And then make sure you already have Where She Went para hindi bitin. I love how things turned out for Adam and Mia sa 2nd book. Although it started a little too rocky for me kasi puro internal monologue ni Adam (2nd book is Adam's pov) and super emo nya nun. Anyway.. things got better in the end naman and i love it. :)

>FLAT-OUT LOVE by Jessica Park - sweet, mapapaisip ka talaga kasi full of family issues and emotional ties. I think mafifigure out nyo na agad yung twist sa gitna pero it doesn't make the novel less intriguing. Nakakatouch to for a ya novel.

ayan.. hehe, hope you guys read some of these. :)

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

Hey there! Just wanna start a discussion about the Son of Neptune and the 3rd book in the series: The Mark of Athena

I red the Son of Neptune again this morning..
Apparently there's a lot of clues regarding the 3rd novel: The Mark of Athena..

During Frank Zhang's last visit to his grandmother's house,
Mars/Ares said that Percy will have to make a decision that he can't make and that Frank will help him out..

Juno also mentioned that Anabeth will have a rough time ahead and she could possibly bring trouble on the quest of the 7 Demigods..

Now, considering that Anabeth's fatal flaw is Hubris (thinking one can do better even than the gods) and Percy's flaw is Unwavering loyalty..

NOTE: Remember Athena's warning at the end of The Last Olympian?

"I once warned you Percy Jackson, that to save a friend you would destroy the world. Perhaps I was mistaken. You seem to have saved both your friends and the world. But think carefully about how you proceed from here. I have given you the benefit of the doubt. Do not mess up"

It's possible that Anabeth could bring trouble and possibly even get captured by Gaea's forces... Percy will then have to make the decision to leave the quest to rescue Anabeth or continue and lose her forever ... Frank being responsible and a great tactician will then persuade Percy to put the quest as a priority.. so it's likely that Anabeth will have to die...

What do you think?, any speculations about the 3rd book?
:noidea:

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

MAY HAVE SPOILERS

heartlessangel: I definitely think some sort of sacrifice will be made. BecauseMars had told Frank that there will come a time when Percy will have to make a sacrifice that he cannot make, and Frank will have to be there to remind him of his duty. Percy's fatal flaw is of course, his loyalty to his friends. It definitely has something to do with Annabeth (as told by Hera/Juno) although I can't imagine what sort of difficulties she would make for Percy.

I don't think that Annabeth would die though, because Riordan doesn't really seem like the type of author to kill her off. Not unlike Collins or Rowling. But I could be wrong.

kimi

your beloved Mitch Rapp is gonna be in cinema soon (2013? 2014? )

and he has his own wikipedia page! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitch_Rapp

rumored to play him (as per wiki) are Gerard Butler (mmm....i dont like), Colin Farrell (too short!), Matthew Fox (hmmm....possible).

is he supposed to be handsome? i forgot na :D

kaya lang im kinda disappointed since CBS films got the dibs on the franchise. does anyone know any new blockbuster films produced by CBS? nada!

if done right, this is gonna be like the Bourne series sana.

yey mitch rapp! movie rumors abound! nothing concrete though.

mitch is good looking, i guess, but being a covert agent, he should blend in with the people around him. brad pitt's name was also attached to this project at one point. but i think he's TOO good looking. he'd stand out like a sore thumb hahaha.

also on a sadder note, vince flynn was diagnosed with stage III cancer last year and is going through radiation treatment. he has another rapp book scheduled for release but that's been pushed back to next year. i hope he gets better. the world needs more of mitch rapp.

and speaking of the bourne series, which i totally love, yeah, the rapp movies should have the same taste and feel.

new bourne movie is in the works, by the way, with jeremy renner taking over from my hubby matt damon. and part of the story is supposed to take place in the philippines. filming here to start in january. if i were still here next year, i'd be stalking the hotels in the metro. heh.

yche09

i am curious with Fifty Shades and tried to find it in Fiction thread, pero nada. Can you direct me to it please :) thanks!

kimi, matt damon is MY hubby! i claimed him from the moment i saw him in Good Will Hunting!

eeewww....Jeremy Renner? aahhhrrggghh.

on Mitch, yup, i agree, the actor that should play him can be good-looking but has the ability to blend (and brood  ). the guy from Avatar (Sam Worthington) - i think you mentioned him before ? - could actually work. hmmmm...

@maysapaw - i downloaded them ata kasi sa ibang site hehe. Anyway,, super nagdalawang isip ako san ko ipopost kasi mejo for adults lang talaga pero pwede rin sa romance thread. Just to be on the safe side, i posted them sa Romance Ellora's Cave Romantica, Samhain, LooseId, etc. eBooks thread. Hope you can read them both and uhm.. finish it. I swear, for me both are hard to read books, yung gusto ko na itigil pero ayoko..super ambivalent. Its a new territory (o baka ako lang talaga? hmmm).

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

okay...i'm officially curious. i'll check it out...but if it contains kinda disturbing parts i might not finish it or i'll just skim through it. i did check amazon's rating and it was highly rated.

but yeah...doesn't mean i will like it as well (hello beautiful disaster  ).

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

May nakapanood na ba sa inyo yung movie na Let Me In?

Swedish version is Let the Right One In, with the same Book title.

Nabasa nyo na ba ito?

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

It's finally sembreak for me!! :yipee:

I've finished reading A Conspiracy of Kings and it was certainly different from the other books in the series, partly because it was Sophos' story but nevertheless a wonderful story again from MWT. She never fails to disappoint! The only bad part is that I have no idea when the next book will come out...

I'm thinking of reading Nobody's Princess. Has anyone read this?

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

Another reco for YA adventure (romantic parts are kinda scarce )

STRANGE ANGELS SERIES by Lili St. Crow

Finished the 4 books. Grabe, full of action tapos talagang nawindang ako sa kung sino ba talaga mga allies and sino mga kalaban. Ang galing din ng mga twists. Hindi mashado maganda yung first book pero i promise you, it gets better! I love it. Nov.1 labas ng last book. Can't wait! yay! :yipee:

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

just finished several books as well, recommend ko lang itong dalawa:

Pride and Popularity (teen lit) - quite funny, a high school take of the famous Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Rainwater (romance) - well...tulo luha ko...very poignant. seeting is 1930's, depression era.

---------

will read this weekend:

A Match Made in High School and Falling for Hamlet.

and i'm getting intrigued with this Queen's Thief...might give it a try as well.

-------

yche09....sowee, 50 shades is not my cup of tea :(

Re: Chat/Discussion of the book we've Read, Book Recommendations/Suggestions...

Hi Guys!

I just finished reading:

Lola and The Boy Next Door - I really love Stephanie Perkins now! I like the way she writes,I get kilig with all the sweet moments. I think there are more kilig moments in this book than in Anna and the French Kiss, though I love both books! I was surprised to see that there was a Filipino character sa book although glimpse lang. And I must say, Cricket is my type of guy <3 :cloud9: I'm looking forward to the next book,Isla.

The Single Girl's to-do-list - I learned a lot in this book! If only I was able to read it during the time my heart was broken  But anyways, what I like about this book,is that, the plot is not 'fairytale like' and can really happen in real life.

Power of Six - This book made me like Six more, and I think it is more action packed compared to the first book. I hope there won't be rivalry though, between the 2 guys :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll be readiing the 1st book in the Queen's Thief Series! :)
